Movie Review: The Conjuring

I’m very particular about going to the movies these days since Hollywood is putting  a lot of bullshit out lately. I’m even more particular when something comes out under the “horror” genre since I absolutely love horror movies/psychological thrillers. Well, The Conjuring caught my attention. And it was a rated R which was even better.

After hearing about how great a movie it was from very reliable individuals when it comes to horror movies, I pushed myself even more to see it this last Saturday hoping that the theatre wouldn’t be too packed with the release of The Wolverine; I was wrong. The theater was packed from the front to the back and left to right. Luckily my friend and I got there just in enough time to secure seats in the center. I never have expectations when it comes to movies, but I had my hopes up just a little considering that I was told that I would love it.

Quick background on the movie. It’s the true story of one of the many cases of the famous paranormal investigation couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. They’re sought out by Carolyn Perron, played by Lili Taylor, after The Perron family moved into a new home and started experiencing some creepy shit. The story moves forward from there and takes you for one hell of a psychological ride. Some of the more famous cases from the Warrens that you may have heard of that have been turned into Hollywood productions are The Haunting of Connecticut and the infamous Amityville Horror.

So the movie starts and they mention it being a true story. Ok, cool. Then the opening scene starts with a creepy ass doll and you’re hooked right away. The director and production wasted no time in trying to scare the fucking life out of you and made sure they did throughout the movie. The suspense was very well justified in every sense and wasn’t over done. All of the actors and actresses did an amazing job. Direction, cinematography, editing, sound, story, etc. were all on point in my opinion. And I love the fact that they used little to no CGI, which I detest in general for horror movies.

This is a movie I would recommend to anyone, especially if they enjoy a good scare from time to time. Don’t take your kids, unless you want them sleeping in your bed for months, which mean no hanky panky for you. This is also a good flick to take a chick  if you fellas want her all over you from the fear. That’s where you make your move fellas. Put that arm around the honey and make her feel secure. Then whip out the trouser snake. Just kidding, don’t do that. Unless she asks or doesn’t mind, then FUCK IT! Peace out and go watch this movie. It really is worth the ticket.
