Attention Whores Are Not Welcome!

What’s up y’all? So in light of the latest, and usually crappy, MTV “Video Music” Awards, I thought I’d give you all the Bubba opinion on the whole Miley Cyrus “performance” with Robin Thicke. First and foremost, I haven’t supported MTV as a legitimate music station since the mid to late nineties, so I didn’t even bother watching that load of crap they call entertainment this past Sunday. Then I kept seeing the feeds on my twitter ( @1bubbahemingway ) blowing up about the whole Miley Cyrus ordeal. I had just gotten back from a weekend getaway and didn’t bother looking into it right away.

The following day I had completely forgotten about it. My sister and I were hanging out at my mom’s and she asked me if I saw the performance. I replied “no” and she pulls it up on YouTube to show me. As the minutes went by, I felt my IQ levels dropping exponentially. I was completely dumbed down enough to actually watch the whole thing. First of all, and please let me deviate a little, but why the fuck was Robin Thicke dressed like Beetlejuice? Dude, you gotta dress to impress. I don’t care if that was part of the craziness of that whole performance, but that suit looked like shit. Now back to Miley

The question that comes to mind is was she trying to force a change in the fan’s perspective away from her whole “child star” image with this performance? What was she trying to achieve as a result of this horrible and ridiculous performance? She comes out with this ridiculous looking costume and all this attitude and starts grabbing her crotch every chance she could as if  she were Michael Jackson. In our business, a female grabbin/touching her crotch is nothing new and only means one thing, but she ain’t in our business. Then she’s rubbing all up on Robin Thicke’s crotch with that stupid foam finger.

However, the crotch thing didn’t bother me as much as her twerking. Really Miley? Twerking? What the hell are you doing twerking? You have NO ASS sweetheart! A girl with no ass has no business twerking. It’s as simple as that. New phrase: “If you ain’t got the ass to work, DON’T TWERK!” I’m going to see if I could nail the copyrights to that. Miley, go do some squats honey, then give it a second try after a couple of years.

One of the more disturbing things of this performance was the general audience’s reaction to this crap. They were actually cheering her on like a bunch of drones. Some of the celebrity reactions were priceless. It was such an eyesore that rapper Drake couldn’t bare to look at it and looked away from it. I don’t blame him.

It honestly makes me question where we’re going as a society these days. It could also be that I’m an old fart in the eyes of the younger generation, but then again I’ve always been this way. I never really cared much for attention whores. Seek the attention by focusing the attention in the quality of your work. Sinatra never did anything wild to sell records and Metallica did it wearing jeans and t-shirts. There’s no need to go out of your way to look like a fool in front of the world especially in the internet and social media age where once something hits the internet it stays there FOREVER. FOR-E-VER! However, if history proves itself again, we all know how this will end up. It’s unfortunate because there’s nothing worse than wasted talent. Peace out peeps! Until the next time.
